Shakespeare Tower

This three bedroom apartment on the 28th floor of Shakespeare Tower at the Barbican Estate has been refurbished with great precision and care. It has a favourable position within the estate, with exceptional views towards the Shard and St. Paul’s.

Our clients, a film producer and artist, were keen to try something different. Having worked on many projects at the Barbican, we were excited to develop a refurbishment with bold but careful moves to update and develop the interiors.

The original spirit of the building is echoed through a new colour palette, reflecting our own response to the space and the architectural history of the Barbican. The dark blue hue, matched from the door handle on the original fire escape door, continues into the entrance area and study.

The interiors have been reconfigured to enhance the flow of light across the plan, and out onto the apartment’s private balcony. Neutral walls, oak floorboards and high quality bespoke joinery define the living and bedroom spaces.

New design solutions for the study inject practicality into the space with wall mounted modular shelving units. Large slate-grey porcelain tiles and soft lighting in the bathroom create a calm and quiet atmosphere. The kitchen remains faithful to the Barbican gallery kitchen, updated with a new stainless steel counter, integrated LED lighting and modern appliances.
